Motivate Merren is of that rare breed of rapper that seamlessly sews together style and substance. Reflecting on everyday experiences and emotions, his rhymes are as realistic and relatable as much they are encouraging and entertaining.

Off Their Plate, a volunteer-run non-profit aimed at providing COVID-19 relief, is hosting a panel discussion on “Black Folx in Food” to help shed light on the experience of being Black and working in the restaurant industry.
Ebony Dowtin Harris (general manager of Doi Moi in Washington, D.C.), Keith Corbin (executive chef of Alta Adams in Los Angeles), Elijah Bah (founder and operator of Nurish in New York City), and others will discuss the various challenges Black entrepreneurs face in the food service industry.
“OTP is creating this space to amplify the voices of Black food industry leaders as we learn, listen, and act in accordance with our anti-racist commitments to supporting BIPOC-owned, independent restaurants.”
The virtual event will take place Thursday, July 9th, 5-6 pm. If you’re interested in the event, you must RSVP to receive dial-in instructions. While the event is free, donations will directly support the panelists.

Join Boston-based Sons of Serendip for the next installment of their virtual Summer Concert series on Friday, July 24th at 7:30 PM EDT. The Sons of Serendip are a classical-crossover quartet (harp, piano, cello, and voice), well-known for finishing as finalists on season 9 of America’s Got Talent.

MIDA, an Italian-influenced neighborhood restaurant in Boston’s South End, will be hosting a virtual wine tasting on Friday, June 26th. Italian wine ambassador and sommelier Ciro Pirone will lead the wine tasting, featuring four wines from Sicily and paired with an amazing three-course dinner, consisting of MIDA Owner and Chef Douglass Williams’ unique take on classic Sicilian dishes.

Join local Boston Visual Artist Ayana Mack and Arielle Gray of ARTery, WBUR’s Arts and Culture team, for a virtual paint night on Thursday, June 25th at 4pm EST. Mack will guide viewers through a step-by-step process to produce your very own summer-themed work of art!

Beginning June 19th, Jamaica Mi Hungry will be bringing their food to Allston! The Jamaica Mi Hungry food truck will be open for take-out Monday through Friday, 11am – 2pm, in the 182 Western Ave parking lot. In the Fall, the pop-up will transition into the restaurant space, adding dinner service to the operation (also for take-out only, as per Boston’s re-opening regulations). Menu items will include dishes like Jerk Chicken, Oxtail, coconut rice and beans, and sweet plantains, in addition to vegetarian/vegan options. Be sure to stop by this week for the opening!
